NOMAD: Dominique Moody and the Assemblage of Home

For decades, Dominique Moody has explored home as something we build, carry, and continually remake. Working across assemblage, sculpture, photography, and architecture, Moody transforms salvaged wood, glass, metal, photographs, and found objects into works that hold traces of memory, movement, and lived experience.

Moody’s practice is shaped by a life of movement and an enduring interest in how objects accumulate histories. Drawing from the legacy of Black assemblage in Los Angeles, she approaches discarded and everyday materials as vessels for storytelling, transforming what has been overlooked or left behind into new forms.

Central to Moody’s practice is her mobile artwork, home, and studio best known as N.O.M.A.D. (Narrative, Odyssey, Manifesting, Artistic, Dreams). Built from reclaimed materials, N.O.M.A.D. has evolved over decades as a space for making and living, reflecting Moody’s ongoing exploration of home, mobility, and self-determination.

NOMAD: Dominique Moody and the Assemblage of Home brings together works from across Moody’s practice alongside a large-scale representation of N.O.M.A.D. and archival materials tracing its history. Through them, home emerges not simply as a physical place, but as an accumulation of materials, memories, relationships, and stories, something capable of being carried forward, even as the places around us change.
